All of these photos were taken on a Holga 120N: a plastic, medium-format “toy” camera that is known for its built in flash with a spinning color filter wheel. With this feature, you can choose from red, yellow, blue, and white flash (or a combination of all four, at once, taken over multiple exposures). As someone monumentally interested in distortion and ambiguity in art, I tend to gravitate toward the latter approach as much as possible. By layering colors and exposures, it becomes difficult to identify the most “authentic” or “accurate” copy of an image, thereby challenging the idea of photography as one that serves solely to document and inform.”
